Summer Paintings or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Embrace Unemployment

In early June I wrote a note on Facebook pleading with friends to "Buy my PAIN-tings (PLEASE)" and help fund my unemployment and newfound hobby. I received an overwhelming positive response (because my friends are AWESOME and I love them) so this is the first batch of requested paintings. Now that I have job, I'm probably going to be producing at a much slower rate, so I figured may as well post some now. In chronological order of completion:

Recreation of Robert Longo's "Frank"
(but horizontally transposed so it matches the one in Patrick Bateman's living room)
24 x 48 in
For Kyle

"Feed Me A Stray Cat"
8 x 16 in
for Aaron

"The Dude Abides"
12x 24 in
for David

"Do You Like To Party?"
12 x 24in
for Dean

"Dr. Strangelove"
9 x 12in
for Tim

"Who Do You Think?" or "Finally Answering The Age Old Question"
9 x 12in
for Korey

"Nobody Fucks With The Jesus"
8 x 16 in

"I Was Cured All Right"
8 x 16 in
for Tom

Tools: Acrylic Paints, Photoshop, Lots and lots of coffee and spare time.

American Psycho: Reinterpreted

Inspired by Josh Cooley, I decided my summer art project would be to draw out different scenes from my favorite movies. This particular set is pulled from the movie American Psycho and each one style is influenced by a different artist. That way I can practice all sorts of fun ways to paint!

"Business Cards"
inspired by Roy Lichtenstein

"No...I'm in touch with Humanity"
inspired by Patrick Nagel
"I'm Simply Not There"
inspired by So Me
"A Meaningful Relationship"
inspired by Saul Bass

"It's Hip To Be Square"
inspired by Ralph Steadman
Tools: recycled book covers, acrylic paint, sharpie.

Catalyst Undergraduate Research Magazine

Some page layouts I designed for Catalyst, the Undergraduate Research Magazine. We were assigned a strict color-scheme for the different sections of the magazine (as you can see it was lime, turquoise, navy). I didn't create all of the images, but I will upload the ones that I did to a separate post.
